I think a lot of people have a misconception that just getting married to a u.s. citizen is going to be like a get out of jail card. That's not necessarily the case. There's no automatic benefit just by getting married and marriage of course, should be entered into for the proper reasons. But the fact that you have a u.s. citizen spouse or u.s. citizen children is generally considered a positive thing and it's what would be considered by the courts as one of the positive equities. It can help you and in many cases, it does. But in and of itself, it is not an answer.
