Most family-based petitions with u.s. immigration requires an affidavit of support. Affidavit of support is the assurance that you're providing the federal government that the person you're sponsoring is unlikely to need public benefits. They don't want somebody coming here that's going to have to be supported by taxpayer dollars.

So it's your contract with the federal government saying that you'll be responsible for the financial well-being of the person you're sponsoring. There are certain thresholds, there's a poverty guideline. You have to show income by providing tax information or showing assets. It's important that it be done. It can be confusing, but it is something that you may need help with in terms of the immigration process and we're happy to help with that.
