What if a dream act passes while you're in the middle of your immigration process? Can you switch directions and apply under the (hypothetical) new path?

Question: " What if a dream act passes while you're in the middle of your immigration process? Can you switch directions and apply under the (hypothetical) new path? "

Answer: "A request for an immigration benefit can be abandoned/withdrawn at any time. There should be no negative impact.  If need be, it could be resubmitted (as a new request).  We do not know cost, timing and specific benefits which may be associated with any DREAM reform. Because there are so many unknowns, it would seem best to pursue any immigration benefit available now and worry about options later once there are specifics."
